Podgorica Wineries

The vineyards south and east of the city sit on Cemovsko polje, a gravel plain carrying one of the largest single vineyard blocks in Europe. Two grapes define what gets poured here: Vranac, the dark Montenegrin red, and Krstac, a white grown almost nowhere else.

Visits split into two kinds. The large producer runs a structured cellar tour, most visibly at Sipcanik, where an underground aircraft tunnel left from the old airbase now holds oak barrels at constant temperature. The family estates in Ljeskopolje and along the Cijevna and Moraca valleys work at a different scale, where the person pouring is usually the person who made the wine.

Most cellars ask for a booking rather than taking walk-ins, and tastings are commonly paired with local cheese, prsut and bread. The harvest runs from late August into October, when several estates open their rows to visitors.
