The square is the city's main civic gathering point, bordered by a four-star hotel, the post office and a strip of cafes that fill from morning through to late evening. The Independence Monument stands at the park's southern entrance, with the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ a short walk south, its frescoed dome visible from across the river.
The Millennium Bridge crosses the Moraca here, linking the centre to Stara Varos. The Bulevar Sveti Petar Cetinjski runs north from the centre with most of the city's hotel and restaurant strip, and the embassy quarter sits a few blocks west toward Krusevac. The centre is the busiest part of the city through the working day and on weekend evenings; quietest in late July and early August when many residents leave for the coast.
