The deck runs 140 metres across the water and carries four lanes of vehicle traffic plus pedestrian walkways on either side, linking the city centre with the Stari Aerodrom neighbourhood.

The bridge was designed by the Slovenian engineer Mladen Ulićević and named for the millennium year of its commissioning. Its illuminated cables make it one of the most photographed pieces of architecture in the capital after dark, and the walkway is open continuously.
