Historical landmarks in Podgorica

Historical landmarks in Podgorica are split across the river. Stara Varos on the east bank holds the Ottoman-era survivals: the seventeenth-century Sahat Kula clock tower, the Hadzi-Pasina Mosque still in active use, the small Ribnica fortress remains overlooking the river confluence, and the network of narrow stone lanes around Skaline. The 1944 Allied bombing flattened most of the modern centre but largely spared the older quarter, so the early eighteenth-century street pattern survived.
