Dating to the eighteenth century, it is one of the preserved examples of civic architecture from that era in the city.

The tower is a short walk from the Ribnica river confluence. The surrounding Stara Varoš quarter retains further traces of Ottoman urban fabric, including a mosque and carved stone elements along the main street.
