Podgorica Train station
Trains from Podgorica
Train services from Podgorica run on the historic Bar to Belgrade line, opened in 1976 and one of the most scenic rail routes in the Balkans through the Moraca and Tara canyons. The southbound run to Bar takes around an hour, costs around three euros and runs five to seven services through the day, dropping at the Adriatic coast for onward connections to the resort towns. The northbound overnight to Belgrade takes ten to twelve hours and costs twenty to thirty euros depending on couchette or seat, running a sleeper service most nights of the week.
The station sits next to the central bus station to the south of the centre, ten minutes by taxi or fifteen on foot from Trg Republike. The ticket counter in the main hall is staffed Monday through Saturday with shorter Sunday hours; advance-purchase tickets are available for the long-distance services and reservations on couchettes are essential through the summer. The station bar serves coffee and snacks and runs a longer late-evening programme on the overnight-train days.
